The Garden Cart That Lasted Almost 30 Years
Some tools just become part of your life.
For me, it was an old green AMES garden cart that somehow survived nearly three decades of yard work, mulch runs, garden projects, and random “just throw it in the cart” moments. It lived through every season imaginable and handled way more abuse than it probably should have.
Eventually, though, time wins.
One wheel finally gave out, the plastic started cracking, and after almost 30 years, it was officially done.
Honestly, I didn’t realize how much I relied on that cart until it was gone.
So after trying to make do without it for a while, I finally picked up the newer gray version — and seeing the old green one sitting behind it felt strangely nostalgic. The design has changed, but the idea is still the same: a simple, ridiculously useful garden cart that makes outdoor work easier.
The newer models still focus on lightweight maneuverability, storage, and durability for everyday yard tasks. (Home by Ames) And even today, the AMES Lawn Buddy style carts continue to get strong reviews for being practical, easy to move around, and surprisingly versatile for gardening and yard cleanup. There’s something satisfying about replacing a tool only because it finally wore out after decades of use — not because it failed after a year.
If you’ve ever had one of those old-school garden carts, you probably know exactly what I mean.
