Ortho Weed B Gon - Does It Work?
Ortho Weed B Gon Review — Trying to Get My Lawn Back Under Control
After dealing with weeds spreading throughout my lawn this spring, I finally decided to give Ortho Weed B Gon Lawn Weed Killer a try and see how well it actually works. My yard has been filling up with clover, broadleaf weeds, and some grassy weeds in the thinner areas, and I wanted something simple that could help clean things up without completely tearing the lawn apart.
I ended up choosing Ortho Weed B Gon because it’s one of the more popular lawn weed killers out there and is supposed to target common weeds without harming the grass when used correctly. There are a lot of mixed opinions online about it, so I figured the best way to know was to test it myself.
The application process was pretty straightforward. I mowed the lawn a couple days beforehand, waited for a dry day with no rain in the forecast, and sprayed the heavier weed patches throughout the yard. I tried not to overdo it since I’ve heard spraying too much product — especially in warmer weather — can stress the lawn.
Right away, there wasn’t much visible change, which seems pretty normal from what I’ve read. Weed killers like this usually take several days before the weeds start curling, yellowing, or browning out. Some of the clover already looks a little stressed after the first few days, but it’ll probably take a couple weeks to really know how effective the treatment was.
One thing I’ve already learned is that this product probably works best if your lawn is still in decent shape overall. If the grass is healthy enough to fill back in after the weeds die off, it seems like it can really help improve the appearance of the yard. But if the lawn is already extremely thin or neglected, it’s probably not going to magically fix everything overnight.
So far I’d say the biggest positives are how easy it is to apply and how targeted it is compared to harsher weed control options. I also like that I didn’t need to spray the entire lawn heavily — just focusing on the problem areas was enough for a first treatment.
The biggest downside is probably patience. This definitely doesn’t look like an instant-results product, and I’m expecting it may take more than one application to fully knock back some of the tougher weeds.

Overall, I’m optimistic so far, but the real test will be how the lawn looks in a few weeks once the weeds either die off or come back. I’ll post a follow-up update later with before-and-after results and whether I think it was actually worth using.
