Using Ortho Weed B Gon on My Lawn — Hoping to Clean Up These Spring Weeds

After dealing with a lawn full of weeds this spring, I finally decided it was time to spray and see if I could get things under control before summer hits. Over the last few weeks, more and more weeds started popping up throughout the yard, especially in the thinner sections of grass. The biggest issue has been the light green grassy weeds with tiny seed heads sticking up everywhere, along with patches of clover and a few flowering broadleaf weeds mixed in.

Instead of ignoring it and hoping the lawn fills back in on its own, I picked up Ortho Weed B Gon Lawn Weed Killer to see how well it works on the problem areas.

I went with Ortho because it’s easy to find, reasonably priced, and seems to work well for a lot of common lawn weeds without completely destroying the grass around them. My goal isn’t to have a perfect golf course lawn — I just want the yard looking thicker, greener, and less full of weeds.

Here’s the product I’m using:

Before spraying, I mowed the lawn and waited a couple days so the weeds had enough surface area for the treatment to stick properly. I also tried to pick a calm, dry day since rain right after spraying can reduce how well it works. Most of the application focused on the heavier weed patches rather than soaking the entire yard.

Right now the lawn still looks rough in spots, but hopefully over the next couple weeks the weeds will start browning out and the grass can begin filling back in. Some of the thinner areas may eventually need overseeding later in the season, but first I wanted to stop the weeds from spreading even more.

One thing I’ve learned with lawn care is that nothing fixes itself overnight. A lot of these weeds probably showed up because the lawn was thin coming out of winter, and once weeds get established they spread fast. Hopefully this is the first step toward getting things back under control.

I’ll follow up later with an update on how well the Ortho Weed B Gon Lawn Weed Killer actually worked, including before-and-after results and whether it was worth using.
